Sant’Andrea — A Tidal Listening by Hannah Weinberger

The Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève presents Fort Sant’Andrea — A Tidal Listening, an in situ sound performance by Swiss artist Hannah Weinberger on the island of Sant’Andrea, in the Venetian lagoon.

Archivorum is proud to support this performance as part of its ongoing commitment to experimental artistic practices and site-specific works.

Fort Sant’Andrea — A Tidal Listening is conceived as a temporary soundscape unfolding over several hours — not as a staged performance, but as a moment of communion between people, place, and time.

For centuries, the fort guarded the entrance to the lagoon; once a military fortress, it is now a living site dedicated to encounter, art, and freedom. For this performance, which brings together voice and field recordings, Hannah Weinberger will install a multi-channel sound system of approximately fifty channels distributed across the island. The work is conceived as a form of attentive presence, a way of becoming attuned to the fort through its architecture, environment, and memory — a temporary layer that coexists with the site rather than overtaking it.

On the 9 mai, 2026 participants are invited to move freely throughout the site, allowing this exceptional place to reveal itself at the rhythm of their steps, pauses, and observations.

For a few hours, the fort will come alive through shared attention: an ephemeral gathering, like a tide, opening a collective reflection on Venice’s relationship to water, time, and survival.
