On the occasion of the launch and presentation of GRID #12, we had a wonderful evening at the Archivorum Library in Turin in collaboration with Archivio Salvo. Together with Antonio Grulli, Artistic Director of Luci d’Artista, and Elena Volpato, art historian and curator at GAM, we retraced the life and legacy of Salvo through a lesser‑known but equally fascinating lens: Salvo the reader.
One of the most important Italian artists of his time, Salvo was also a tireless devourer of books, a curious and passionate reader who cultivated a lifelong dialogue between art and literature. Guided by Elena Volpato’s insightful and generous narrative, we revisited the stories, encounters, and inspirations shaped by this deep passion for reading, in a space that celebrates reading as an extraordinary opportunity for knowledge, exchange, and personal growth.
For one night only, Archivorum Library also presented a rare and intimate display : Salvo’s painting 6 libri (1989), an extraordinary work that reflects the artist’s lifelong relationship with books and a carefully curated selection of volumes from his personal library, offering a glimpse into the intellectual landscape that nourished his imagination and artistic vision.
Archivorum Library is proud to have collaborated with Archivio Salvo on this project, which allowed us to share with the public an intimate and invaluable dimension of the artist’s life and work, a portrait of Salvo not only as a painter, but as a reader whose books shaped his thinking, friendships, and creative energy.
