Archivorum participates in Archivi di Comunità, a project dedicated to rethinking the role of archives as shared, open, and active tools within contemporary cultural practices. The project proposes a critical and poetic rethinking of what archives are and can be. Community archives are often described as a form of “utopia”: a precious yet fragile heritage, a testimony to the ongoing becoming of cultures, identities, differences, and generations of living beings.
Aligned with the themes of Archivi di Comunità, Archivorum supports a fundamental paradigm shift: accompanying artists in the construction of their own archives while their creative practice is still ongoing, allowing them to be the first interpreters and curators of their own memory. This approach challenges the conventional model in which archives are assembled retrospectively, often after a career has ended or following the artist’s passing.
Through research, digitization, publishing, educational programs, and collaborations with museums, universities, and cultural institutions, Archivorum develops tools and methodologies to make archives more accessible, dynamic, and future-oriented. The goal is not only to preserve documents and artworks, but to activate processes of knowledge production, fostering new connections between works, artists, and communities. Its participation in Archivi di Comunità further reinforces this vision, fostering dialogue between archival practices, cultural production, and collective forms of knowledge transmission.
