Nil Yalter
Nil Yalter (b. 1938, Cairo) is a pivotal Turkish contemporary feminist artist residing in Paris. A groundbreaking figure, notably the first Turkish female video artist, her wide-ranging oeuvre (drawings, photographs, videos, performance art) is held in prestigious collections and museums. Yalter’s art delves into complex themes like migration, women’s issues, and the convergence of technology and art. Her artistic journey evolved from early abstract works to the revolutionary feminist art movement in 1970s France, establishing her as a trailblazer. Her work critically examines traditional perceptions of gender and sexuality. Throughout her career, she has illuminated the experiences of marginalized groups, including migrant workers and former prisoners, underscoring her steadfast dedication to social and feminist causes. Her influence on the art world is significant, and her art continues to provoke thought and inspire audiences internationally.
Born in Montreal, Anaïs Auger-Mathurin is an art historian and art writer based in Paris. A graduate of the Université de Montréal and the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in art history, her research has delved into the market of classical African art in Dakar. Currently engaged in pre-doctoral studies, she is focusing on the issues of conservation, research, and exhibition of African art in museums, along with its epistemological construction in art history. Passionate about the intellectual production of the Global South, she also works as a freelance writer, crafting exhibition texts, articles, and artist biographies on both sides of the Atlantic.
